For the first time since Orphan Run has started, SOS Children's Villages has allowed us to write letters to the orphans we have sponsored. From the money we raised last year (thanks to your help!), we were able to sponsor 5 orphans who desperately need our help.

Below are their names, pictures and a brief history about each of them. Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in writing them a letter at orphanrun@gmail.com!

Naveed Hussain Shah
Born January 5, 2002

IMG00037-20101031-1624

Naveed Hussain Shah has five surviving siblings. Wilayat Shah, the father of these children worked as a farmer and supported his family. Due to the earthquake on October 8th, 2005, their mother died along with four children as the roof of the house collapsed. Their father shifted his family to the house of Ghufran Shah (his son in law), living in Dab No.2 Mansehra, in a rented house. He was not able to look after his children properly due to his weak financial position.

Naveed joined the SOS Children's Village Dhodial in 2006 at the age of 4 along with two brothers, Tahir Hussain Shah and Noor-ud-Din Shah. Two older brothers, Iftikhar and Qaim, are working on daily wages and an elder sister, Bibi Zakeeda is married. Naveed loves cricket and plays daily matches with his other siblings in the village. He is a right hand batsman and a bowler and likes to watch cricket matches on TV as well. His favourite player is Mohammad Yousaf. There are numerous TV programs representing musical shows and various dramas as well as news which he enjoys watching but the duration has been cut down so he can participate in other activities.

He is a late-starter in the morning but his house mother has been gently coaxing him and he is wakening each morning with more enthusiasm than before. He has been going to bed early each night and should have a regular schedule before schools re-open after Eid holidays. He is very supportive at home and his mother informs us that although he used to avoid helping in daily chores, a little extra attention has improved his habit. He now regularly helps and ensures his room and cupboard are tidy.

Shahzaib has adjusted well in the Village and has been able to make many friends. He has grown very fond of his house and gets along well with other siblings. He weill be attending classes in the SOS Hermann Gmeiner school after Eid holidays.
